He had one thought before he passed out.

Spock

*****

Kirk awoke to a dark room and a blissful warmth beneath his cheek and chest. His shivering had stopped, and his headache was mercifully gone. His throat hurt, though, and he raised his head in hopes that he’d left a glass of water next to the bed.

The next moment, a straw was lightly placed against his lips. He sipped gratefully, the cool liquid soothing on his parched throat. After he’d drunk his fill, he pulled away and laid his head back against the warm pillow.

“Has your condition improved?” His pillow inquired. “Dr. McCoy gave you his newly-made cure. It should have alleviated the majority of your symptoms.”

Kirk blinked. “Spock?”

Not a pillow, then. In fact, he actually appeared to be sprawled directly on top of Spock, cheek against Spock’s chest, chest against Spock’s ribs and stomach. Spock’s arms were securely around him, his warm Vulcan hands resting comfortingly on Kirk's skin. They both appeared to be at least shirtless - oh, wait was that a leg? Pantsless too, then.

How - interesting.

Kirk should separate them. And he was going to. In a moment. Once Spock stopped being so warm and comfortable. “Yeah, I feel much better. But what are you doing in my bed?”

“This is my bed, Captain.”

Kirk peered into the darkness. Although his view was a little skewed, since his head was horizontal on Spock’s chest, he could still see the Vulcan artifacts that decorated the room. “Oh. In that case, what I am doing in your bed?”

“You left the bridge without informing any of us that you were infected with the flu.” Kirk was pretty sure he heard a reprimand in there somewhere. “You then called for me through our bond. I found you on the floor of my quarters.”

“I came to your room instead of mine?”

“Yes.”

Kirk winced with embarrassment. “Sorry. I don’t know why I would have done that.”

“Do not be sorry. You were ill and sought shelter in my quarters. I am gratified by this.”

“Oh right,” Kirk said, still embarrassed. Why not just ask Spock for warm milk and a teddy bear while he was at it? “I’m sure you just love it when others barge into your room uninvited.”

“Others, no. But my bondmate may do as he pleases.”

And damn if Kirk didn’t find that sentiment sweet. He shoved the feeling away.

Spock continued his explanation. “When I found you, you were very ill and dangerously cold. Sickbay is full, so I arranged with Dr. McCoy to keep you here.”

Kirk lifted his head and stared. “You arranged with Bones to cuddle me naked in your bed?”

“We are neither of us completely naked. And Captain, skin-to-skin contact is a most effective way to increase human body temperature.” Spock sounded far too innocent to actually be innocent. “Perhaps if you had not pushed yourself to such an extent, I would not have been forced to unclothe us both and hold you so closely.”

“Touché,” Kirk murmured.

“Do not be concerned. Dr. McCoy has been here several times to check on you. He gives no warning and attempts to take me by surprise with his timing. I believe his goal is to protect you from any untoward actions on my part.”

Bones was trying to protect Kirk's virtue? Southern Gentleman to the core.

“He also asked me to inform you that he is going to,” Spock cleared his throat, “spank you like the damn fool child you are.”

Kirk had to grin at Spock’s stiff but undoubtedly verbatim recital of Bones’s words. “He always threatens to spank me when he's pissed. Don’t worry,” he hastily added, as he felt the first spikes of not-as-repressed-as-Spock-had-claimed jealousy in his mind. “He’d never actually do it.” He paused. “I don’t think.”

“It is illogical for a doctor to threaten a starship captain with a child’s punishment.”

Spock almost sounded petulant. Kirk struggled not to find it cute. “True, but he thinks I need a daddy.”

“He is only six years your elder. If you require someone who is close to your age to play a father figure to you, I will meet your needs. I will be your daddy.”

Kirk smothered his laugh in Spock’s chest. “That doesn’t mean what you think it means." He couldn’t help but imagine himself turned over Spock’s knee, getting spanked and calling Spock daddy.

Oh. Hey. That was hotter than he would have thought.

“Or if you require an actual father figure,” Spock continued, oblivious to Kirk’s sudden thoughts-turned-fantasy, “my father will soon be meeting you again. As you are my bondmate, I am sure he would not be averse to –”

“Stop right there,” Kirk ordered, as his fantasy threatened to take a turn for the too-kinky-even-for-Kirk.

Spock raised an eyebrow. “Why do you wish me to stop? I was led to believe that on Earth, humans wish for their parents to be acquainted with their significant others. Have I been misinformed?”

“No, that’s generally – hang on. You want me to meet your dad as in meet your dad?”

“I do not understand the distinction.”

Kirk pulled back enough to look Spock in the face. “I mean, you want me to introduce me to your dad as your boyfriend? But that’s..."

Kirk trailed off. Spock looked at him curiously. "That is what?"

"...serious," Kirk finished awkwardly.

“Indeed." Spock seemed perfectly satisfied by the idea. "I am quite serious about our relationship.”

Kirk could only stare in bewilderment. “Spock,” he finally said, “I’m not the kind of guy a nice Vulcan like you should take home to Daddy.”

“Vulcans are not, as a general rule, considered nice by humans.”

“No, I don’t suppose you are. But that’s not what I meant. I meant that - well, you’re an Ambassador’s son, and brilliant, and respected, and I’m...” Kirk faltered.

Spock was watching him, his expression faintly puzzled but expectant.

Kirk tried again. “I’m...” He trailed off.

“Yes?”

A mess. Too broken to fix. “I’m not good for you.”

“Empiric evidence clearly supports the contrary position. You have been exceedingly good for me. My father is gratified by your presence in my life.”
